ENRICO PIERANUNZI | “UNLIMITED”
Friday 8 October, h 21.00 | Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti
Enrico Pieranunzi Unlimited is an extraordinary musical adventure in which every track is a sound story to be enjoyed note by note. During his multifaceted career, Enrico Pieranunzi has played jazz, blues, baroque music and a multitude of other genres and styles. His musical horizon is almost boundless: he is recognised as one of the most versatile artists on the European music scene. His vast discography (more than 80 albums) includes collaborations with jazz giants (Chet Baker, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler) and classical recordings – with albums dedicated to Scarlatti, Bach, Handel and Gershwin. He has won numerous awards, including a Django d’Or (1997), an Echo Award (2014) and the Musica Jazz magazine’s ‘A Life for Jazz’ award. Many of his compositions have become ‘classics’, so much so that they have been published in The Real Books, the musical scores that summarise and make available the repertoire of standard pieces to jazz musicians (Dee Song, Don’t Forget The Poet, Coralie, New Lands, The Night Gone By, Autumn Song). Enrico Pieranunzi’s musical language has been the subject of degrees and doctoral theses in Italy and abroad.

REIS DEMUTH WILTGEN | “SLY”
Friday 22 Octobre, h 21.00 | Teatro Caio Melisso
Pianist Michel Reis, bassist Marc Demuth and drummer Paul Wiltgen are three prominent members of Luxembourg’s vibrant jazz scene. In 2011 they made their recording debut with an album entitled simply Reis/Demuth/Wiltgen. From then on the band crossed national borders, playing at some of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe, Asia, Africa and America.
The success of the debut is replicated with Places in Between (2016) and Once in a Blue Moon (2018), the latter released on the Italian label CAM Jazz. A turning point in the trio’s career is their collaboration with world-renowned saxophonist Joshua Redman, who was dazzled by their music on the stage of the Charlie Jazz Festival in Vitrolles, Provence, in 2014. The partnership with Redman was renewed in 2019 with a new series of performances in France, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
2021 is the year of a new album entitled Sly, once again on the CAM Jazz label. For Spoleto Jazz Season the brand new work is presented live, together with the best songs from the trio’s brilliant repertoire.

BartolomeyBittmann | “DYNAMO”
Friday 12 November, h 21.00 | Teatro Caio Melisso
What Matthias Bartolomey (cello) and Klemens Bittmann (violin and mandola) have in common is their passion for the search for new sounds. They both have a high level of academic musical training at the Universität für Musik in Graz and Vienna. In their pieces, dynamics and intensity vary with sensitivity and precision, the energy of rock alternates with the elegance and intimacy of chamber music, the free inventiveness of jazz also gives way to lyrical and emotional depth. There are references to folk music and, from time to time, classical roots also emerge, never disavowed. The duo’s subtitle is progressive strings vienna and their philosophy is condensed into these three terms. Progressive is their way of composing, to create an original repertoire aesthetically connected to today’s musical world, playing instruments that have an ancient tradition: strings. Vienna is their base: a city that has already been the cradle of musical avant-garde in the 19th and 20th centuries. Dynamo is their latest album.
