National Day of the Walk Among the Olive Groves

Sunday 24 October on the hills around Terraia, Poggiolo and San Brizio. Start at h 9.00

For the fifth year in a row, the City of Spoleto is participating in the ‘National Day of Walking among the Olives’. The event, promoted by the Associazione Nazionale Città dell’Olio (National Association of Oil Cities) with the aim of disseminating the culture of the olive tree and quality olive oil, the protection and promotion of the environment and the olive-growing landscape and the dissemination of the history of olive-growing, will be held on Sunday 24 October.

This year’s walk, on the hills around Terraia, Poggiolo and San Brizio, will lead us to discover not only the quality of the oil from the Assisi-Spoleto hills, but also historic villas and small country parish churches that are object of great popular devotion.

Olive groves, fields and the scent of the Mediterranean scrub will alternate along the route, testifying to the respect for biodiversity that local farms show for their land. At the end, it will be possible to taste the products of the organic district being set up by the San Brizio Pro Loco.

The route is about 8 km long and takes 3 hours. The meeting point for the start, scheduled for 9.00 am, will be the headquarters of the Pro Loco di San Brizio in largo Walter Tobagi. The use of technical equipment and appropriate trekking shoes is recommended.

The meeting point for the departure, scheduled for 9.00 am, will be the headquarters of the Pro Loco of San Brizio in largo Walter Tobagi where, at the end of the excursion, there will be a tasting and a market of typical products of the territory by the same Pro Loco.

Participation is free of charge with compulsory reservation by calling 0743 218620 or writing to the email address (places for the tasting are limited and only registered participants will be able to attend) and it is necessary to come with a Green Pass.

In case of bad weather, the walk will be deferred and a new date will be announced as soon as possible.

The initiative is organised under the patronage of the Ministry for the Environment and the Protection of Land and Sea, the Ministry for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and in collaboration with the Spoleto section of the Italian Alpine Club and the Pro Loco di San Brizio.
