THE CITY REMEMBERS MAESTRO MENOTTI 16 YEARS AFTER HIS DEATH

Celebratory moment by Mayor Andrea Sisti and Councillor Danilo Chiodetti at the extraordinary opening of the exhibition ‘Gli anni Menotti 1958-1998’ at the former Monte di Pietà building in via Saffi. On the occasion of the 16th anniversary of Maestro Gian Carlo Menotti’s death, which occurred on 1 February 2007 in Monte Carlo, an extraordinary opening ceremony was held this morning for the exhibition ‘Gli anni Menotti 1958-1998’ in the new layout curated by Piero Maccarinelli and Monica Trevisani.
Mayor Andrea Sisti and councillor Danilo Chiodetti, both present at the former Monte di Pietà in via Saffi, wished to commemorate the figure of Maestro Menotti.

I hope,‘ declared Danilo Chiodetti, Councillor for the Enhancement of the Culture, Quality and Beauty of the City and the Territory, ‘that the city of Spoleto can increasingly grow as a welcoming dimension for the young generations of artists, a place where art can be experimented and breathe. We will work so that we can go more and more in this direction, because Spoleto and the Festival Of Two Worlds are an inseparable pair. I thank the Foundation for this installation and for opening these spaces once again, because we must continue to keep Maestro Menotti’s memory alive and work to pursue his goal‘.

The people of my generation,’ began Spoleto Mayor Andrea Sisti, ‘breathed and experienced the magical atmosphere of the Festival, the beauty of an open, free, international city, full of artists, painters, exhibitors and musicians. We are talking about a period that determined what is now the identity of Spoleto, the city of the Festival, of culture and art. Today I would like to give special thanks to those who, for years, have been working to ensure that this reality can be maintained, such as the Monini family and the Festival Foundation, who work by combining their experience and skills for the benefit of the city. With the candidature as Italian Capital of Culture 2025, we have created the foundations and conditions to create a city where young people can live, nurturing the ambition of being able to realise themselves here. Today, in celebrating the anniversary of Maestro Menotti’s death, we remember a figure who had the genius to express all of this, while at the same time collecting the legacy of an extraordinary and fundamental character for Spoleto‘.

The exhibition will be open free of charge till 7.00 pm of today, Wednesday 1 February.
