DOLCI D’ITALIA
National Festival of Typical Italian Sweets.
From the North to the South to the islands, from the sea to the mountains, from ancient Greece to the Middle Ages up to contemporary society, many influences have led to the great sweets we enjoy today.
The Italian confectionery tradition is as wide as the abundant production of high quality food of which the country is rich: milk, cream, wheat, oil and butter, chocolate, ricotta cheese, grape must, fresh and dried fruits… Dolci d’Italia was born with the purpose of promoting this vast food culture.

For four days, Spoleto will be the setting of an exciting journey through sweetness, offering tasting and educational experiences to everyone: food lovers, journalists, chefs, culinary entrepreneurs and workers.

Sunday 30 October along the Via di Francesco and the olive tree path. Departure from Eggi at 9 a.m.
The City of Spoleto joins the ‘National Day of Walking among the Olive Trees‘ for the sixth year.
The event, promoted by the National Association of Oil Cities, and this year included in the ‘Frantoi Aperti’ programme, with the aim of disseminating the culture of the olive tree and quality olive oil, the protection and promotion of the environment and olive-growing landscape, and the dissemination of the history of olive growing, will be held on Sunday 30 October.
This year’s walk will be a ring-route with departure and arrival from Eggi along the Via di Francesco and part of the olive tree path, passing through and stopping at Bazzano Superiore. Olive groves, fields, woods and scents of the Mediterranean scrub will alternate along the route, testifying to the respect for biodiversity that local farms show towards their land.
The 8-km, 3-hour route mostly insists on altitudes varying between 400 and 600 m above sea level, overcoming non-demanding differences in altitude, which make it well suited to hikers with a good basic preparation (suitable clothing is recommended).
At the end of the excursion, a tasting of local products organised by the local Circolo Arci will be offered to participants in the garden of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Eggi. The tasting will be enlivened by the notes of Mad Groove, a refined jazz blues duo.
The meeting point for the start, scheduled for 9 a.m., will be in Eggi, at the bus stop in front of ‘Villa de Pazzi – Morelli’.
Participation is free of charge but subject to reservation by calling +39 0743 218620 or emailing info@iat.spoleto.pg.it (places for the tasting are limited and only those regularly registered may attend).
In the event of bad weather, the initiative will be postponed and the new date for the Camminata tra gli olivi will be notified as soon as possible.

What a Spectacular Exhibition!
A stage city for over 60 years
Tour description:
Maestro Giancarlo Menotti had just given birth to a ‘festival of a new kind where the youth of the two worlds meet’ – so new that it transformed a city and changed the idea of culture on a national and international level – when Giovanni Carandente conceived Sculptures in the City. Spoleto 1962, an equally innovative exhibition for the time, the place and the artists involved, the first experiment of an open-air museum. The 104 sculptures, created by the greatest masters of the 20th century in the Italsider workshops, were then exhibited in the streets and squares of the city.
Today, after 60 years, we will return to admire works by Calder, Pomodoro, Consagra, Chadwick and Franchina , along an itinerary that, starting from the work that symbolises that event, the Teodelapio in Piazzale Polvani, and through special and secret places in the history of the Festival’s shows, will take us to Piazza del Comune where Franchina’s work stands out with its evocative name Spoleto 1962 and where a tasty surprise awaits us in collaboration with Dolci d’Italia – National Festival of Typical Italian Sweets.
Route information:
– walking time: 2 h. 30′ approx. + a sweet surprise
