<!--:it-->"Cortesie per gli ospiti" a Palazzo Collicola: Galleria PACK<!--:--><!--:en-->"Cortesie per gli ospiti" at Palazzo Collicola: Galleria PACK<!--:--> @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts presents the second stage of the project CORTESIE PER GLI OSPITI (Courtesies for the guests). It is a new cycle dedicated to the world of private gallerists, their stories, choices, passions and intuitions, a captivating, narrative trip, conceived as a cultural adventure, built as an inner retrospective.

After the exhibition with Giovanni Bonelli, it is now the turn of another Lombard gallerist, Giampaolo Abbondio, founder and owner of Galleria PACK in Milan. Curating the exhibiting space will be the figure of Luigi De Ambrogi, former avantgarde gallerist, Abbondio’s comrade in arms and privileged spectator of 15 years of exhibitions with 28 selected artists.

The opening is on Saturday 4 March; the exhibition wil go on till 12 May, 2017.

Destruction for Creation – SOICHIRO SHIMIZU at Palazzo Collicola @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive

<!--:it-->Destruction for Creation - Mostra di SOICHIRO SHIMIZU a Palazzo Collicola<!--:--><!--:en-->Destruction for Creation - SOICHIRO SHIMIZU at Palazzo Collicola<!--:--> @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

RESIDENCE COLLICOLA is a format for young artists from abroad, who are called for their first exhibiting adventure in Italy; this time it is SOICHIRO SHIMIZU‘s turn, a Japanese artist who is crossing an ideal linguistic bridge between European values and Asian culture. Born and grown in Japan, Shimizu has been spending some time in Bangkok in the last years, where he conducts part of his major researches. This is his debut in Spoleto, after some trips to Umbria. DESTRUCTION FOR CREATION is a title that was envisaged after the August and October earthquakes in Central Italy, when Shimizu’s project was maturing in his Bangkok and Tokyo ateliers. Japan’s antiseismic culture is a an ethical and architectural pillar of Japanese civilization. Hence the idea that each destruction process becomes the prompt of creation that absorbs and levels all mistakes in a shared growth, turning yesterday’s false steps into tomorrow’s skilled pace, infusing the work with the value of experience and the sign of holistic rebirth.

Umbria and Japan are far from each other on a world scale, yet close for their inner geological features, subterranean dynamism, the deep silence of their natural environments, their meditative mysticism that finds its chamber of human wonders on the mountains.

The exhibition will go on till 28 May, 2017.

Rocca Albornoz – National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto

5 March – 30 July 2017

GUESTS AT THE ROCCA – from 5 March

TREASURES FROM THE VALNERINA – from 9 April

An extraordinary body of works join the collections on display at the Rocca Albornoz – National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto, for a unique exhibition, a tribute to the vitality of Umbria, a land that knows how to react. The exhibition is strictly connected to the fundraising campaign to support the restoration of works damaged by the earthquake.

Umbria is a land that reacts to the events with the strength of her cultural heritage. From 5 March to 30 July 2017, the Rocca Albornoz – National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto will host a series of works that were spared from ruin after the recent earthquake in Central Italy, thanks to an important exhibition organized by Regione Umbria, Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Assets and Tourism, Spoleto-Norcia Archdiocese and the City of Spoleto. Sistema Museo will be the exhibition’s operative managing subject. The event is included in the “Discovering Umbria” programme, supported by Regione Umbria to promote and highlight the museum activities.

The exhibition “Treasures from the Valnerina” opens on 5 March with a body of works coming from areas of Marche, Lazio and Umbria, that were struck by the earthquake, an evidence of solidarity among areas sharing such a mournful event, as well as cultural and artistic roots. The exhibition features works selected following various criteria, yet they all show a very deep symbolism, such as the 16th-century Wooden Crucifix from the church in Sant’Anatolia di Narco, a 16th-century “Madonna with Child” from Avendita, the Annunciation by Andrea della Robbia from the Castellina Museum, Norcia, an exquisite “Madonna with Child” (painting on table) by Ulisse da Siena, previously at the Diocesan Museum in Ascoli Piceno, and a refined “St. Sebastian” dating to the second half of the 17th century, coming from Scai, close to Amatrice. The exhibition is strictly tied to the crowdfunding campaign that started on 1 February, to support the restoration of other works of art that were damaged by the seism. It is possible to participate in the campaign here: (https://valorecultura.starteed.com/it/lightquake).

From 9 April, a wide selection of works already restored after 24 August 2016, will be included in the exhibition “Treasures from the Valnerina”. These artistic treasures are ambassadors to Italy and to the world of Umbria’s vitality, a “collective tribute” to an invaluable richness of art and history.
The 2016 earthquake struck hard the cultural heritage of an area of Umbria, the Valnerina, which is for many the place of soul. Not only a land of spirituality, tied to St. Benedict and St. Rita from Cascia, but also a harmonious whole of landscape, burgs, churches, and works of art, now wounded by the merciless shocks that started on 24 August and went on for the whole autumn, 2016. The work and self-denial of many who operated in this emergency (MiBACT, Fire Brigade Units, Italian Army, Civil Defence, Carabinieri’s Cultural Heritage Protection Unit, Volunteers) allowed to rescue many works from damaged churches and museums in Valnerina, and to store them in the Santo Chiodo di Spoleto specialized depot (4000, so far). From here, they will be able to receive the “cures” by restorers at the Vatican Museums, at the Florence Opificio delle Pietre Dure and other skilled restorers, and wait to return to their original settings, when ready. In the meantime, thanks to the project “Discovering Umbria”, it will be possible to see a significant part of them in an exhibition at the National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto, where they will be on display from 9 April.

What will be possible to see in the Spoleto exhibition is the result of a committment that started soon after the earliest shocks, a sign of the professionalism and competence of the many who were called to protect the cultural heritage. Only a small part of Umbria was directly damaged by the earthquake, even if the images of seriously-struck churches have moved many a heart, but the will of the Umbrian community is that of not giving up and continue to protect their historical and artistic heritage.
The earthquake’s wounds are faced by bodies and people with the invitation to all those who love Umbria to come and visit its museums and monuments, which are open, vital, and offer an extraordinary view on history, art, environment and traditions.

DISCOVERING UMBRIA

“Discovering Umbria” shows a land that reacts to the events with the strength of its cultural heritage. Art and history meet in the region’s museum network, that features more than 170 museums, ecomuseums and archaeological sites. In the land of Giotto, Signorelli, Perugino and Burri, each museum is an evidence of the connection between community and land.
Museums represent the main tool to know the history, art, burgs and landscape of Umbria: hundreds of proposals, itineraries and curiosities that raise intense emotions, an invitation to discover the art that has marked the history of this land and become one with the contemporary.

<!--:it-->TRAME LONGOBARDE - Tra architettura e tessuti<!--:--><!--:en-->TRAME LONGOBARDE - exhibition at the Rocca Albornoz<!--:--> @ Rocca Albornoziana | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

An extraordinary reconstruction work on the basis of archaeological information, a trip to discover the Longobards’ daily life through textiles, clothes and jewels of this extraordinary people; the exhibition Trame longobarde: tra architettura e tessuti opens on Thursday 16 March at 12.30, at the National Museum of the Duchy by the Rocca Albornoz. It will be visitable till 18 June (extended to October 1st)

The exhibition returns to Spoleto after four years, and after having been on display in Monte Sant’Angelo, Brescia, and Benevento. Future stages include Cividale del Friuli, the National Museum of the Early Middle Ages in Rome, Ferentillo, Abbadia San Salvatore (Siena).

Textiles and hems were created by the inmates of the Spoleto Jailhouse that have participated in the weaving course, using school looms of the IIS Sansi Leonardi Volta. The compositions were done studying the scarce traces found in the few sources available, the Historia Langobardorum by Paul the Deacon, but the result is an accurate proposal of the old weaving techniques in the Early Middle Ages. Various social ranks are represented, and the visitor will be led by horsey icons and spears, through 4th/8th-century-old finds, to meet the protagonists of Trame Longobarde on the background of images of the Basilica of San Salvatore.

The exhibition is curated by Glenda Giampaoli and Giorgio Flamini, with the scientific support by Donatella Scortecci. The project is the result of an exceptional collaboration of bodies and institutions, including Comune di Spoleto, Regione Umbria, Istituto Sansi Leonardi Volta, the Spoleto Jailhouse, the National Museum of the Duchy, all of them co-ordinated and directed by the Association Italia Langobardorum.

<!--:it-->Mondiale di Scacchi Amateur 2017<!--:--><!--:en-->2017 World Amateur Chess Championship <!--:--> @ Rocca Albornoziana | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

Spoleto will be the World Capital City of Chess from April 1-9. The city of the Festival will host the World Amateur Chess Championship organized by FIDE, the International Chess Federation.

200 participants will represent 80 countries at the splendid Rocca Albornoz; the event is organized in collaboration with the City of Spoleto, along with Conspoleto, CONI and Regione Umbria.

For the organization of the event, Spoleto prevailed over the city of Orlando, FL. There is a special liaison between Spoleto and Chess: the city of the Festival has organized and supported various events by the Chess Academy, such as the Italian Youth Championship in 2011.

The World Amateur Chess Championship has a young tradition, yet it already took place in some great locations: Greece, the island of Rhodes, Romania, Crete, Dubai, Paris, Amsterdam, Singapore, places by the great historical/artistic heritage or a great tourist appeal, like Spoleto, ready to welcome chess enthusiasts and players from the five continents. An international display and an important occasion to promote the city and its beauties.

The World Amateur Chess Championship is for all players that score below 2300 in the ELO rating system.

<!--:it-->Il Libro d'Ingresso - LA CATTIVA NOVELLA di Luis Gabriel Santiago<!--:--><!--:en-->The Entrance Book: THE BAD NEWS, by Luis Gabriel Santiago<!--:--> @ Cinema Sala Pegasus | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

“Entrance Book”, the experimental event conceived by Luis Gabriel Santiago and Victor Maticora debuts with La Cattiva Novella (The Bad News) and I Figli della Ragione (Sons of Reason) at the Sala Pegasus in Spoleto.

The first appointment is scheduled for Tuesday 11 April at 21.30, featuring LA CATTIVA NOVELLA – Storie Crudeli (Cruel Stories) by Luis Gabriel Santiago, with Pietro Biondi. Drawings: Adriana Sotero. Video: Giovanni Barchi.

Thursday 20 April at 21:30, it’s the turn of I FIGLI DELLA RAGIONE. Pensieri da Taschino (Pocket Thoughts) by Victor Maticora, with Corinna Lo Castro. Narrators: Cristina Antonini, Graziano Sirci. Music: Marco Marino. Video: Giovanni Barchi.

The Entrance Book aims at promoting the production and diffusion of any short literature expression, from tales to commentaries, from aphorisms to epigrams, also including poems, micro dramas, nursery rhymes of any kind, scientific prose or narrative for children.

Its concrete expression will be an actual book included in the price of the event, that will be given to the attendees; the book is also the source of the texts that will be dramatized along with music and video projections, the representations of written words.

The project aims at combining theatre with books, to trigger a literary and theatre microcircuit that will hopefully expand and cross many borders. Its conceivers (Santiago and Maticora), founders of the European Academy of Fictitious Science Fiction (Italian: Accademia Europea della Fanta Fantascienza) resume their multi-disciplinary activity that led to the issuing of a book series between 2000 and 2010, as well as theatre plays, concerts and radio plays, which attracted characters such as Anna Proclemer, Arnoldo Foà, Michele Serra, Ugo Gregoretti, Daniele Formica, Edoardo Albinati to Spoleto and its theatres.

Social firmness can truly depend on the committment to produce art and culture, in an area exhausted by a devastating seismic fury.

Entrance Book: € 8,00

The Entrance Book: SONS OF REASON, by Victor Maticora @ Cinema Sala Pegasus
Apr 20 @ 21:30
<!--:it-->Il Libro d'Ingresso - I FIGLI DELLA RAGIONE di Victor Maticora<!--:--><!--:en-->The Entrance Book: SONS OF REASON, by Victor Maticora<!--:--> @ Cinema Sala Pegasus | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

Excursion: Giro dei Condotti and Spoleto’s Thrust Fault @ Spoleto
Apr 23 @ 10:00

Appointment at h 10.00 at the parking lot at the southern entrance of the city. The excursion will head out to the Fortilizio dei Mulini (at the other end of the Ponte delle Torri), on the slopes of Monteluco, along the Giro dei Condotti, towards the Spoleto’s Thrust Fault.

The Fortilizio dei Mulini was a Medieval watchtower over the bridge, and a grinding mill. It stood at the confluence of two aqueducts, one from Cortaccione and the other from Patrico. Before being canalised into the bridge, the water used to activate the grinder of a mill that was operative till the end of the XIX century.

The Giro dei Condotti is a charming trekking route that offers exceptional glimpses on Spoleto and its valley. The name “giro dei condotti” testifies to the presence of the old water ducts underneath the pathway.

The route features 200-million-years-old rock stratifications, including the particularly interesting Spoleto’s Thrust Fault which is the object of this excursion. It is a fault that features older rocks overlapping on younger ones, more specifically, a vast area of Jurassic rock on Cretaceous/Paleogenic rock. Along the Giro dei Condotti there is a rock wall that clearly displays the deformation effect of this overlapping. Another geological phenomenon is visible along the route, i.e. the erosion that produces a tectonic window.

The route goes on then toward Monteluco, its Sacred Wood, and Patrico. The full route lasts 2-3 hours about (stops included).

Your packed lunch will take place on the lawns at Monteluco, and will be followed by the route extension to Castelmonte (2 hours, stops included).

Participation fees: 10,00 € (adults) and 5,00 € (kids above the age of 10), including insurance. Those who come from Perugia and wish to make use of our shuttle service (maximum 8 pax), will pay an extra fee of 5,00 €.

For information and reservations, please email to f.pazzaglia@intgeomod.com or call (+39) 3280726567 (Fausto).

Himalaya – L’infanzia di un capo by Eric Valli
(France, Nepal, Switzerland, UK – 1999)
Dolpo-po are the semi-nomad inhabitants of the Nepalese district called Dolpa. In summertime, they live in their villages at 4-5000 m above sea level. Eric Valli has long lived among them, and his film is the story of the voyage of young Passang toward his village, a life experience that will lead him to becoming a chief.

Tuesday 9 May, ore 21.00
Au-délà des cimes by Rémy Tezier
(France – 1999)
It’s a documentary on the life of alpinist Catherine Destivelle. Her reputation makes her an excellent Ambassador of the mountain. The film was awarded at the 56th Trento Festival.

Tuesday 16 May, h 21.00
North Face – Una storia vera by Philipp Stolzl
(Germany, Switzerland, Austria – 2008)
1936 was the year of the Berlin Olympic Games. The Nazi regime had decided to award with a Golden olympic medal the German climbers who could climb Mount Eiger’s northern wall in that year. Toni Kurz and Andreas Hinterstoisser are dead set on climbing the mountain that has already taken many a climber’s life.

Tuesday 23 May, h 21.00
Mai + come prima by Giacomo Campiotti
(Italy – 2005)
After the high school final exams, six schoolmates decide to go on Holiday on the Dolomites. During their mountain stay, they’ll get to better know themselves and the others, facing and trying to overcome their own fears, and strengthening their friendship. Together they will be able to pass through the tragedy.

Tuesday 30 May, h 21.00
La morte sospesa by Kevin Macdonald
(UK – 2003)
The film is on the conquest of Monte Siula Grande by friends and climbers Simon Yates and Joe Simpson. A true, dramatic story occurred in 1985, 6.344 m above sea level, on the Peruan Andes. Simpson fell into a crack of the mountain and Yates realised that his own only salvation was cutting the rope that tied them together…

Mezz’ora dopo la chiusura #187

Treasures from the Valnerina
The dressed Madonnas

National Museum of the Duchy of Spoleto – Rocca Albornoz

Mezz’ora dopo la chiusura, the event organized by Sistema Museo, returns on Friday May 5, 2017 at 18.30 at Rocca Albornoz with a visit entitled: Treasures from the Valnerina – The dressed Madonnas.

The event is dedicated to the exhibition featuring works from the areas that were struck by the 2016 earthquake and it will focus on the “statues to dress”, i.e. mannequins representing the Virgin, or Saints, who were richly decked up with dresses and jewels. This production, which is still under-analyzed, is a phenomenon of great interest both from the artistic point of view and for the knowledge of the history of costume, and also because it symbolizes the devotion that the popular tradition attributed to these simulacra.

The evening continues in a fortress’ room with a tasting of typical products and the new Lavazza Firma coffee line.

Thanks to Con Spoleto – Consorzio Albergatori di Spoleto and D.A. Distribuzione Automatica for supporting the event.

Entrance ticket – special fare € 3,75
Guided visit – full fare € 5,00
Tasting – € 3,00
