From the North to the South to the islands, from the sea to the mountains, from ancient Greece to the Middle Ages up to contemporary society, many influences have led to the great sweets we enjoy today.
The Italian confectionery tradition is as wide as the abundant production of high quality food of which the country is rich: milk, cream, wheat, oil and butter, chocolate, ricotta cheese, grape must, fresh and dried fruits… Dolci d’Italia was born with the purpose of promoting this vast food culture.
For five days, Spoleto will be the setting of an exciting journey through sweetness, offering tasting and educational experiences to everyone: food lovers, journalists, chefs, culinary entrepreneurs and workers.

Those ‘sustainable’ Lombards!
Trekking in the city, from the Basilica of San Salvatore
During their long migratory journey, the Lombards came into contact with populations that were very different in terms of culture, traditions and customs. After an initial period in which they remained firmly attached to their own customs, they then began to integrate with the local communities, especially when they settled on ‘Italian’ territory.
In this trek, we will retrace the history of the Spoleto Lombards, who managed to settle as rulers but recovering and reusing what was left by the Roman civilisation. Tales of their food traditions, textile techniques and architecture will guide us on a fascinating plunge into history, to one of the favourite and most representative places of the Longobard elites where, in collaboration with the ‘Italia Langobardorum’ Association and the National Festival of Italian Sweets, we will immerse ourselves in the flavours and colours of the Longobard Duchy of Spoleto.

Families will challenge each other in an engaging giant-sized box game and set off on an imaginary journey to discover the seven UNESCO World Heritage sites ‘The Lombards in Italy. Places of power (568 – 774 AD)’. The materials used during the game were produced by the Associazione Italia Langobardorum.
The game will be played in teams, each consisting of a maximum of 2 families, with a maximum of 5 teams.
Duration of the game approx. 1h 30′.

The programme devised by Visioninmusica on behalf of the Municipality of Spoleto, for the 2023 edition of Spoleto Jazz, offers live events of great artistic value. Four excellent international musicians will enhance the magical atmosphere of one of the most culturally fervent cities in Italy and Umbria.
Opening the event will be Australia’s ‘national treasure’ Sarah McKenzie, a jazz pianist and singer known for her seductive phrasing and creative improvisation. Accompanied by her jazz quartet, Sarah will present a preview of some tracks from Without You – her new album to be released this autumn – together with unfailingly enchanting great classics such as Fly me to the Moon, I wish you Love, Paris in the Rain.
John Scofield, accompanied by bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Bill Stewart, will take us on a musical journey that reinterprets jazz sounds in a modern key. Starting with a few tracks by the phenomenal American guitarist, who in his career has collaborated with the likes of Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock and other great jazz legends, the band will perform improvisations that are absolutely out of the box with a few forays into tracks from their new album Uncle John’s band.
Stick Men is an absolutely outside the box band. The supergroup brings together two historic members of the British band King Crimson, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto, in an unprecedented line-up with guitarist Markus Reuter. The trio will offer a musical journey back in time, juggling the various nuances of rock with their inimitable style.
Closing the festival will be Tigran Hamasyan, who will present his latest album The Call Within, joined by Marc Karapetian on bass and Arthur Hnatek on drums. Considered one of the most extraordinary musicians of his generation, the Armenian-born piano virtuoso will range from jazz improvisation to folk music with forays into pure rock.

Saturday 11 November 2023, starting at 11.30 a.m., is the opening of the new exhibitions at Palazzo Collicola, Spoleto. The cycle includes two solo exhibitions and an installation, set up in the spaces of the ground floor and the Piano Nobile of the palace, created by three international artists with deep ties to Italy and who will exhibit in Spoleto for the first time: Petra Feriancová, Francis Offman and Calixto Ramírez. Their proposals will dialogue with the artistic heritage of Palazzo Collicola, as well as with the landscape-natural heritage of the city. The inauguration will be held in the presence of the three invited authors.
On the second floor, in the rooms adjoining the gallery with sculptures from Leoncillo’s informal period, a series of drawings by the famous artist from Spoleto will also be on display: a tribute to one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century, whose works are currently stored in the repositories. All exhibition projects will run until 11 March 2024.
