<!--:it-->GROUND LAYER - mostra di Francesco Irnem<!--:--><!--:en-->GROUND LAYER - exhibition by Francesco Irnem<!--:--> @ Casa Romana | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

GROUND LAYER, Francesco Irnem’s new project, is part of SATELLITE COLLICOLA. It has been conceived and created especially for the phisical, thematic and conceptual characteristics of Spoleto’s Roman House (Via di Visiale), with its exciting living spaces and its elegant mosaic floors.

On show from December 3rd until March 26, 2017.

Palazzo Collicola Winter Exhibitions @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive
Dec 3 2016 – Feb 12 2017 all-day
<!--:it-->Mostre invernali di Palazzo Collicola<!--:--><!--:en-->Palazzo Collicola Winter Exhibitions<!--:--> @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

The marks caused to Palazzo Collicola by the recent earthquake turn into art. PALAZZO COLLICOLA ARTI VISIVE‘s director Gianluca Marziani instructed the artist Vincenzo Pennacchi to create an installation that would give an aesthetic and symbolic value to the fissures produced by the earthquake on the museum’s walls. LA CREPA (The Crack), is one of the proposals of Palazzo Collicola’s winter exhibitions that will be on show until February 12.

An important donation of six sculptures from 1963 by BEVERLY PEPPER is one of the highlights of these winter exhibitions. The works, donated to the contemporary art museum by the artist, testifies of the long-term relationship between the sculptor and Umbrian territory. In 1962 Beverly Pepper was the only woman as well as one of the three American artists (together with David Smith and Alexander Calder) who were invited to take part in the exhibition SCULPTURES IN THE CITY, curated by Giovanni Carandente.

The first stage of CORTESIE PER GLI OSPITI (Courtesies to Guests) project will feature works by Giovanni Bonelli’ private gallery in Milan.  COURTESIES TO GUESTS is a new cycle dedicated to the world of private galleries with their stories, choices, passions and intuitions… a narrative and engaging journey, imagined as a cultural adventure. Giovanni Bonelli’s gallery, opened in 2012 in the “Isola” district, features works by emerging artists as well as established national and international artists (Maurizio Mochetti, Gianni Pettena, Daniel Spoerri).

Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive will also host  an ambitious project connecting FOOD and VISUAL ARTS: OBIC, originating from an idea by Anna Paola Lo Presti and Gianluca Marziani, is the title of a big book in which the featured art works explore the history of food, from its origins to primary ingredients, traditional dishes and innovations.

Three new sculptures by Spoleto’s artist Cristina MMR Bonucci will be presented within the cycle TERRITORIO Storie di artisti umbri (Territory, Stories of Umbrian artists). Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive’s exhibition pays tribute to Kengo Kuma’s architectural look, to the holistic spirit of its buildings. The works have been set up in the Piano Nobile’s main room.

(on show until March 26)

Finally, L’ECO DEL BOSCO (The Echo of the Wood) is Franco Marrocco’s exhibition. Marrocco’s artistic path seems to consciously aim at reducing the unnecessary. His artistic quality has an oriental profile and seems to be influenced by Japanese culture of ceramics, where the talent shows itself in the silence of the suspended step.

<!--:it-->"Cortesie per gli ospiti" a Palazzo Collicola: Galleria PACK<!--:--><!--:en-->"Cortesie per gli ospiti" at Palazzo Collicola: Galleria PACK<!--:--> @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts presents the second stage of the project CORTESIE PER GLI OSPITI (Courtesies for the guests). It is a new cycle dedicated to the world of private gallerists, their stories, choices, passions and intuitions, a captivating, narrative trip, conceived as a cultural adventure, built as an inner retrospective.

After the exhibition with Giovanni Bonelli, it is now the turn of another Lombard gallerist, Giampaolo Abbondio, founder and owner of Galleria PACK in Milan. Curating the exhibiting space will be the figure of Luigi De Ambrogi, former avantgarde gallerist, Abbondio’s comrade in arms and privileged spectator of 15 years of exhibitions with 28 selected artists.

The opening is on Saturday 4 March; the exhibition wil go on till 12 May, 2017.

Destruction for Creation – SOICHIRO SHIMIZU at Palazzo Collicola @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive
Mar 4 – May 28 all-day
<!--:it-->Destruction for Creation - Mostra di SOICHIRO SHIMIZU a Palazzo Collicola<!--:--><!--:en-->Destruction for Creation - SOICHIRO SHIMIZU at Palazzo Collicola<!--:--> @ Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

RESIDENCE COLLICOLA is a format for young artists from abroad, who are called for their first exhibiting adventure in Italy; this time it is SOICHIRO SHIMIZU‘s turn, a Japanese artist who is crossing an ideal linguistic bridge between European values and Asian culture. Born and grown in Japan, Shimizu has been spending some time in Bangkok in the last years, where he conducts part of his major researches. This is his debut in Spoleto, after some trips to Umbria. DESTRUCTION FOR CREATION is a title that was envisaged after the August and October earthquakes in Central Italy, when Shimizu’s project was maturing in his Bangkok and Tokyo ateliers. Japan’s antiseismic culture is a an ethical and architectural pillar of Japanese civilization. Hence the idea that each destruction process becomes the prompt of creation that absorbs and levels all mistakes in a shared growth, turning yesterday’s false steps into tomorrow’s skilled pace, infusing the work with the value of experience and the sign of holistic rebirth.

Umbria and Japan are far from each other on a world scale, yet close for their inner geological features, subterranean dynamism, the deep silence of their natural environments, their meditative mysticism that finds its chamber of human wonders on the mountains.

The exhibition will go on till 28 May, 2017.

<!--:it-->Il Libro d'Ingresso - LA CATTIVA NOVELLA di Luis Gabriel Santiago<!--:--><!--:en-->The Entrance Book: THE BAD NEWS, by Luis Gabriel Santiago<!--:--> @ Cinema Sala Pegasus | Spoleto | Umbria | Italia

“Entrance Book”, the experimental event conceived by Luis Gabriel Santiago and Victor Maticora debuts with La Cattiva Novella (The Bad News) and I Figli della Ragione (Sons of Reason) at the Sala Pegasus in Spoleto.

The first appointment is scheduled for Tuesday 11 April at 21.30, featuring LA CATTIVA NOVELLA – Storie Crudeli (Cruel Stories) by Luis Gabriel Santiago, with Pietro Biondi. Drawings: Adriana Sotero. Video: Giovanni Barchi.

Thursday 20 April at 21:30, it’s the turn of I FIGLI DELLA RAGIONE. Pensieri da Taschino (Pocket Thoughts) by Victor Maticora, with Corinna Lo Castro. Narrators: Cristina Antonini, Graziano Sirci. Music: Marco Marino. Video: Giovanni Barchi.

The Entrance Book aims at promoting the production and diffusion of any short literature expression, from tales to commentaries, from aphorisms to epigrams, also including poems, micro dramas, nursery rhymes of any kind, scientific prose or narrative for children.

Its concrete expression will be an actual book included in the price of the event, that will be given to the attendees; the book is also the source of the texts that will be dramatized along with music and video projections, the representations of written words.

The project aims at combining theatre with books, to trigger a literary and theatre microcircuit that will hopefully expand and cross many borders. Its conceivers (Santiago and Maticora), founders of the European Academy of Fictitious Science Fiction (Italian: Accademia Europea della Fanta Fantascienza) resume their multi-disciplinary activity that led to the issuing of a book series between 2000 and 2010, as well as theatre plays, concerts and radio plays, which attracted characters such as Anna Proclemer, Arnoldo Foà, Michele Serra, Ugo Gregoretti, Daniele Formica, Edoardo Albinati to Spoleto and its theatres.

Social firmness can truly depend on the committment to produce art and culture, in an area exhausted by a devastating seismic fury.

Entrance Book: € 8,00

Photographic and video exhibition to illustrate pope Francis’ encyclical.  Thirty unpublished pictures, flanking as many documental excerpts, proposed by three young artists, Laura Filippucci, Francesca Marinangeli and Eleonora Dottorini. The exhibition ends on Sunday 16 July.

“Everything is connected”: pope Francis submits a thoughtful consideration on the urgency of funneling human development on sustainable tracks, criticising technocracy and proposing to pledge to new living styles. Everything starts from St. Francis’ words “Praise Be To Ye, Lord”, excellent example of the care of what is helpless and of an undisputable sense for ecology.

Collicola onthewall presents SCHERMI URBANI (Urban Screens) @ Vie del centro storico
Dec 16 2017 – Apr 2 2018 all-day

from Saturday 16 December
Opening h 14.30 – Downtown Spoleto

Collicola onthewall presents

SCHERMI URBANI
Curated by Gianluca Marziani

SCHERMI URBANI is a Christmas event of public art, strongly wished for by the City administration which entrusted director of Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts Gianluca Marziani with its artistic curatorship.

The event involves some twenty sites in downtown Spoleto, including two former newsstands (Piazza Collicola, Piazza della Libertà), Palazzetto Ancaiani’s six displays (Piazza della Libertà) and some further fifteen dispays scattered across the city centre (Corso Mazzini, Via del Mercato, Via Salara Vecchia, via Minervio): the locations will be coated with great images of contemporary art, created by five artists who already collaborate with Palazzo Collicola Visual Arts.

“After last summer’s performance by street artist Ob Queberry in Piazza del Mercato – said Head of Culture and Tourism Camilla Laureti and Head of Town Planning Antonio Cappelletti – for the Christmas period we wanted the displays of closed shops to become the base for artistic interventions. It is a way to have the city centre live again and to try and envision a different future for this part of the city. We thank the shop owners who accepted to be featured, director Gianluca Marziani and the artists who joined in.”

Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive, from 27 October 2018 to 24 February 2019
Toru Hamada and Angelo Dozio
Opening: Saturday, October 27 at 12:00

TORU HAMADA – Anthological

The exhibition is curated by Gianluca Marziani and Italo Bergantini, and organized in collaboration with Romberg Contemporanea. After the placement in June, during the Festival dei Due Mondi, of one of his sculptures in Carrara marble in front of the Teatro Nuovo, today comes a large exhibition that tells us about his poetic and inspired painting … The life of Toru Hamada resembles the processing cycle of his art. First of all, one feels the atavistic bond with Japan, ascribable to a state of being that favours atmospheric silence, the firmness of the gaze, the discipline between body and spirit. At the same time, one feels the second homeland in Europe, first in Pietrasanta and then in the French countryside of Saint-Lubin-de-la-Haye, two places of solid culture that have welcomed both the man and the artist. Asia and Europe, two continents that today sum up in this Umbrian experience, in the heart of a Spoleto that has always conceived harmony between distant worlds.

ANGELO DOZIO – The discipline of constant doubt

Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive’s historical investigation continues among Italian artists who deserve a more exhaustive evaluation of their work over ten years. After Gianfranco Chiavacci, Gastone Biggi, Salvatore Emblema and Giuseppe Biasio, it is now the turn of Angelo Dozio with an anthological exhibition set up between the white rooms of the Piano Mostre and the noble furnishings of the Piano Nobile.
The exhibition is curated by Gianluca Marziani: “Reinterpreting the cycles of a long career, Angelo Dozio highlights a consistent value in the theme of transcendence. Technological intuition, the link with town planning and architecture, the implicit presence of sound, the clairvoyance of digital language are present, but in the end there’s a metaphysical suspension that emerges and surpasses the rest, an iconographic system that returns to the lines of the sacred cross, the curves of the Greek and Roman capitals, to the Florentine two-tone marble, to the plan of churches and basilicas, to the design of ideal cities… Dozio’s geometry goes beyond history and climbs into the values of the Absolute, where only painting can get, where design incorporates morality, where Beauty thinks beyond worldly contingencies.”

Friday, March 29 at 21:00 | Cinéma Sala Pegasus
The director and journalist Stefano Liberti meets the audience of Spoleto for the presentation of the documentary SOYALISM.

The evening is a Visioni d’Autore special event, in collaboration with Coworking Spoleto

THE DOCUMENTARY
In an increasingly overpopulated world, in the grip of climate change, control of food production has become a huge business for a handful of a few giant companies. Following the pork production chain, from China to Brazil via the United States and Mozambique, the documentary describes the enormous movement of power concentration in the hands of these companies, which is taking hundreds of thousands of small producers out of business and permanently transforming entire landscapes. From intensive mega-breeding in China to the Amazon rainforest threatened by soybean crops developed to feed animals confined to sheds on the other side of the world, this process is undermining the social and environmental balances of the planet.
The film had its world premiere on November 18, 2018 at the International documentary film festival in Amsterdam.

STEFANO LIBERTI
Stefano Liberti is an Italian journalist and director. He directed the documentary “L’inferno dei bimbi stregoni” The hell of witch children, winner of L’Anello Debole award in 2010. He wrote “I signori del cibo. Viaggio nell’industria alimentare che sta distruggendo il pianeta” The Lords of food. A journey into the food industry that is destroying the planet (Minimum fax 2016).

Visioni d’Autore is organized by the City of Spoleto, MAIA Cultural Association and Cinéma Sala Pegasus.

EXHIBITION | Gianni Asdrubali: Surfing With The Alien @ Palazzo Collicola

Gianni Asdrubali: Surfing with the Alien
curated by Marco Tonelli and Bruno Corà
Palazzo Collicola
Inauguration: Saturday 27 June 2020 – h 11.00

Almost twenty-five years later, Gianni Asdrubali (Tuscania, 1955) is again a protagonist in Spoleto, with a solo exhibition that takes stock of the work of one of the most interesting contemporary Italian painters, who established himself on the national and international scene as an innovator of abstract, aniconic and gestural research since the 1980s.

The exhibition, curated by Marco Tonelli (Director of Palazzo Collicola) and Bruno Corà (President of the Foundation Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri and member of Palazzo Collicola’s Scientific Committee), is a retrospective of his work through the most representative and enigmatic as well as evocative cycles of paintings such as Aggroblanda, Trigombo, Malumazac, Zeimekke, Azota, Stoide, Azotrumbo, Tromboloide.

Scheduled for 21 March, suspended due to the Covid-19 lockdown, the exhibition vibrantly announces the reopening of Palazzo Collicola and its activities, albeit with many changes in programming due to the pandemic.

The exhibition’s title Surfing with the Alien (one of the most famous tracks by American virtuoso and brilliant guitarist Joe Satriani), means to communicate the unstable balance, dizzy leaps and acrobatics in the void of a dynamic painting that looks like fluctuating in the dimensions of space, each time generating new plots and surprising trajectories.

As Asdrubali himself once wrote: “Surfing is an action generated by absence. But this surfing is not smooth, it is contrastingly bumping, it is running away, going away, to then return and bang into its own beginning, but every time it returns and bumps into itself it deforms and opens the structure, transforming the ‘figure’ of the image, which is never the same. The interaction is the figure of this struggle, of this contrast between surfing and the alien”.

Asdrubali’s figure is an extreme one, an artist whom critic Filiberto Menna listed in the Astrazione povera group, Flavio Caroli in that of Magico primario, and that Giovanni Carandente invited at the Venice Biennale in 1988.

At Palazzo Collicola, the exhibition unfolds through the rooms at the ground floor, which once housed the permanent collection of the Modern Art Gallery (since 2019 rearranged at the museum’s second floor), where two other works by Asdrubali are kept, including a spectacular Tromboloide from 1992. An interactive project, ZUMBER, by the ORAMIDE research group, has been realized on this work and will soon be available on the museum’s website  http://www.palazzocollicola.it

The exhibition will be open to the public from 27 June to 13 September 2020, it has been realized with the collaboration of Galleria Giraldi, Galleria A Arte Invernizzi, Galleria Matteo Lampertico, Galleria Consorti. During the exhibition, a catalogue with texts by Marco Tonelli, Bruno Corà and an interview with the artist Davide Silvioli will be published.

Opening times:
June-July: Fri-Sun 10.30-13.00 / 15.30-19,00
