TULIPARK SPOLETO @ Villa Galileo, Baiano di Spoleto
Apr 15 all-day

After last year’s extraordinary success, the second edition of Tulipark Spoleto will start on April 6. The event, which will last about four weeks, will be held in Baiano di Spoleto at Villa Galileo under the patronage of the municipality.

The complex that will once again host the event is rich in history. The Villa, in fact, welcomed a group of Dutch scientists who were followers of heliocentrism. The scientist par excellence who stayed in this mansion was Galileo Galilei. It is in honour of this great Italian pride that the Villa is so named.

TuliPark is the first festival of the land of Holland in Italy, now in its second edition in Umbria to introduce the fascinating world of tulips.

For this new edition, the park will expand its offer by creating a scenario coloured by more than 120,000 tulips, cultivated in a field of about 15,000 square metres, enriched by a windmill and a fantastic Dutch plinth, precisely to make visitors relive the wonders of the Netherlands, on Umbrian soil.

New attractions will be present: in addition to the tulips, a themed giant swing will be installed, a giant deckchair from where you can admire the tulips and a golden circle where you can take your selfies. In addition, thanks to the patronage of the Municipality of Spoleto, every Wednesday from 2 to 6 p.m., kids will be able to participate in workshops where they can create origami in the shape of tulips.

The initiative is aimed at an audience of all ages, photography lovers, nature and flower lovers, who will be able to relax and enjoy the scent and colours of tulips.

The innovative idea accompanying the Tulipark is definitely the You Pick formula. In fact, visitors will have the opportunity to pick their own bouquet of tulips directly from the field, creating their own composition of colours.

Food and drinks will be available in the refreshment area or in the relaxation area where you can relax or have a family picnic.

The Tulipark will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be possible to reach the park by car by typing ‘Tulipark Spoleto’ directly into Google Maps. For those reaching the park by their own vehicle, a large free parking area is available, while by train or bus, the available stop is Baiano di Spoleto, just 200 metres from the park.

The Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti hosts the Metamorfosi project, born from the initiative of the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti, which seeks to give dignity and job opportunities to people in situations of serious social hardship: together on stage the Quartetto del Mare and the Piccola Orchestra dei Popoli, both active in the social and volunteering spheres, bring their experiences to the stage. Starting with the instruments: the wood of the violins, viola and cello played by the Quartetto del Mare comes from the boats used by the migrants who landed on Lampedusa.

The first “Violin of the Sea” was made by the inmates of the Violin and Carpentry Workshop of the Milan-Opera Prison with a technique that was used in England in the 16th century to make violas da gamba. Nicola Piovani, special guest of the evening, is among the first musicians to have joined the initiative by dedicating Canto del legno to this instrument, a piece premiered for Pope Francis by the first violin of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Carlo Parazzoli, which will also be performed in this concert. Thanks to the skilful hands of the lute-makers involved and the inmates of a number of Italian penitentiary institutes, the wood from around 60 boats from the Favarolo dock in Lampedusa was transformed into musical instruments, with the aim of creating a true ‘Orchestra of the Sea’.

The Piccola Orchestra dei Popoli is an artistic workshop of the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti that brings together musicians from different cultures and religions: from traditional Turkish and Lebanese songs to Japanese ones, from David Maria Turoldo’s music poetry to Argentine tango and Balkan melodies. The concert closes with a tribute to Maestro Nicola Piovani and a performance of the song ‘Life is beautiful’.

The concert, which raises funds specifically for the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti, is a unique opportunity for participation and intercultural dialogue: two musical worlds meet in Spoleto, that of the Western classical tradition and the multiethnic world of non-European traditions.

The proceeds of the evening will be donated to the Fondazione Casa dello Spirito e delle Arti.

TULIPARK SPOLETO @ Villa Galileo, Baiano di Spoleto
Apr 18 all-day

TULIPARK SPOLETO @ Villa Galileo, Baiano di Spoleto
Apr 22 all-day
