Feb 21 @ 21:00
<!--:it-->***ANNULLATO*** CARMEN - Ballet Flamenco Español <!--:--><!--:en-->***CANCELLED*** CARMEN - Ballet Flamenco Español <!--:--> @ Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti

On February 21 at 21.00, the Teatro Nuovo Gian Carlo Menotti will host the Ballet Flamenco Español company from Madrid with the famous Carmen Suite ballet, as part of its Tourné season (sponsored by AUCMA and MEA Concerts).

The most evocative work of French composer and pianist Georges Bizet will meet popular flamenco music. The sensual and harmonious notes are represented on stage with the elegance of Spanish classical dance and the pure strength of flamenco. The subject of Carmen, taken from a short story by Prosper Mérimée, is interpreted here by mixing different styles of Hispanic dance, exalting an ancient Spain of bullfighters and passionate gypsies. The powerful colour, the result of continuous stylistic research, reigns everywhere on the scene, boldly interpreting the majesty of Bizet’s work.

IL LAGO DEI CIGNI
 “La Classique” Moscow Ballet
Thursday 14 November at 21.00
Teatro Nuovo “Gian Carlo Menotti”
One of the immortal XIXth-century ballet history masterpieces signed by Marius Petipa. In spite of Tchaikovsky’s music, it was not immediately successful at its first 1877 representation at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, a succes that would later arrive in 1894, when it was staged at the Marijinsky Theater in St. Petersburg.
Swan Lake tells the enchanting love story between the young prince Siegfried and Odette, an otherworldly creature transformed into a swan by the evil wizard Rothbart for refusing his love.
The Moscow Ballet “La Classique”, one of the most acclaimed classical dance companies that has toured all over Europe for over twenty-four years, brings back the excitement of this classic with its muffled atmosphere. Drawings of lights and suggestive scenographies will immerse the audience in the candid atmosphere of the most famous swan lake in the world.

Some previews: opening with Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi (August 20th) with direction, scenes and costumes by Pier Luigi Pizzi, and final concert directed by maestro Riccardo Muti (August 30th). In between, in addition to Monica Bellucci’s tribute to Maria Callas (August 27) and the concert of the young pianist Beatrice Rana (August 23), Emma Dante will return to Spoleto with the show-concert I messaggeri (August 21).

Silvia Colasanti will perform Arianna, Fedre and Didone three monodramas for actress, female choir and orchestra, based on text taken from Ovid’s Epistulae Heroidum (22 August). The scenic concert Le creature by Prometeo with original costumes by Roberto Capucci and music by Ludwig van Beethoven will be held in Piazza Duomo and performed by the Orchestra del Carlo Felice di Genova conducted by Andrea Battistoni (August 28), while Luca Zingaretti will perform on the last Saturday of the Festival (29 August) with the reading of La Sirena from the story Lighea by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa.

64° Festival of Two Worlds
from June 25th to July 11th 2021
www.festivaldispoleto.com

From www.festivaldispoleto.com:

The sixty-fourth edition of the Spoleto Festival dei Due Mondi, the first programmed by artistic director Monique Veaute, opens on Friday 25 June 2021. Founded by Gian Carlo Menotti in 1958, Italy’s oldest performing arts festival once again transforms the city of Spoleto into a stage: from 25 June to 11 July, 60 performances, all Italian premieres, feature more than 500 artists from 13 countries in 15 venues, with some of the world’s best artists and companies offering an uninterrupted flow of music, opera, dance, theatre, allowing audiences to discover the unexpected.

Performances, discussions with artists, collateral events and debates shine a light on contemporary society, illuminating its diversity and complexity. This year at Spoleto, the first edition of Rai’s Festival per il sociale places themes including environmental and economic sustainability, social cohesion and inclusion, the role of women, the new generations and the value of memory at the heart of the discussion.

Dante, Stravinskij, Strehler, Pina Bausch and some of the great classics of the theatre repertoire form a bridge between the past and the future, projected forwards in time thanks to the interpretations of great artists and companies from Iván Fisher to Antonio Pappano, from the Budapest Festival Orchestra to the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, from Mourad Merzouki to Angelin Preljocaj, from Francesco Tristano to Brad Mehldau, from Flora Détraz to Jonas&Lander, from Liv Ferracchiati to Lucien Øyen, from Romeo Castellucci to Robert Lepage to Lucia Ronchetti, and by participants in residencies run by La MaMa Spoleto Open and the Accademia Silvio d’Amico.

There are exhibitions at Palazzo Collicola, while discussions organized by Fondazione Carla Fendi, concerts at the Casa Menotti and numerous collateral events introduce visitors to some of the most beautiful hidden corners of this city.

The 64th edition of the Festival of Two Worlds welcomes live audiences in absolute security. While the health situation means there are restrictions on the number of available tickets, a calendar of online appointments will be streamed via the Digital Stage so that those who cannot attend physically can still take part. A festival which brings people together, creating new opportunities for dialogue and reflection.
