Nino Franchina – Spoleto 1962

The sculpture, titled Spoleto 1962, reminds us of the pioneering initiative by Giovanni Carandente, the  Sculture nella città exhibition, during which, the most famous living sculptors exhibited their works in downtown Spoleto. Among them, there was also Sicilian Nino Franchina, that produced three works for the occasion: Lo Stregone (The Witch), now at the Museo Civico in Turin, Cancello “Gate”, still at the entrance of Carandente’s house in Spoleto, and Spoleto 1962, that best shows that tension toward the heights featured in most of Franchina’s works.
