Museum of Textile and Costume

Collection: XVth – XVIIIth cen.

The Museum of Textile and Costume was established also thanks to donations by generous collectors, and features handicraft dating to the XIVth – XXth cen.

The collection is organized following thematic criteria in five halls, starting from the one dedicated to vestments, where you can see a series of chasubles from different periods, and a valuable XVth-cen velvet with pomegranate decoration.

The Costume Hall keeps various pieces of clothing, including the Empire style dress that belonged to Alexandrine Bonaparte, Napoleon’s niece.

Through the Accessories’ Hall, among a wide range of cuffs, shoes and purses, you reach the Operated Fabrics’ Hall, that shows the wealth and variety of such kind of handicratf.

The visit finishes by the Local Fabrics Hall, among which the so-called “tovaglie perugine” (Perugia Cloths) stand out; they were pictorially reproduced by such artists as Leonardo da Vinci, Ghirlandaio, Giotto and many others.
