The 75th “Comunità Europea” Singing Competition has begun

The 75th Singing Competition began regularly this morning and will continue until 8 May 2021 at the Teatro Nuovo in Spoleto. Then, on 9 and 10 May 2021, the free auditions connected with the Competition will take place at the Complesso di Villa Redenta, reserved for candidates who have passed the age limits set by the regulations (32 years old for sopranos and tenors and 34 years old for mezzo-sopranos, contraltos, basses and baritones) or who are not citizens of European countries or of countries belonging to the Creative Europe Programme.

The jury is chaired by the famous soprano who won the competition in 1971, Mariella Devia, and includes baritone Renato Bruson, musicologist Giancarlo Landini and representatives of the Institution’s Artistic Directorate, Michelangelo Zurletti and Enrico Girardi.

More than 120 artists from Armenia, Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Greece, Italy, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and other non-European countries such as Australia, China, Korea, Japan and Russia will take part in the competition and free auditions. A huge success, especially considering the complex health situation we are experiencing.
Strict measures were taken to prevent contagion, as per the safety protocol drawn up by Spea s.r.l. of Spoleto, with the contribution of industrial experts Luca Stella and Alessandro Virgili. All those who had access to the theatre in the morning underwent an antigenic swab in the special areas set up outside the Teatro Nuovo and this will be the case in the coming days until the end of the singing competition.

The preliminary rounds will take place today and tomorrow, followed by the semi-finals and finals on 7 and 8 May 2021.
All real-time updates and communications on the progress of the singing competition will take place via the website and the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale and
